What Should Go on This Wall?

At this weekend’s Tour of Remodeled Homes, we asked attendees for a little help deciding what to put on the right hand wall in this picture (where the cow skulls currently are).

We received some truly creative suggestions! Here’s a few:

A couple of people suggested that we consider a painting by Russian abstract painter Wassily Kandinsky.

Others liked the idea of a tapestry or wall hanging that incorporated the textures and colors of the living room:

Or a vintage kimono:

Some great mid-century suggestions included a George Nelson “Ball Clock

or perhaps a sunburst mirror?

“How about a map of Fiji?” suggested one attendee:

or a picture of a guinea pig?

or some sandstone cave art?

Others envisioned conceptual art, from a fused glass piece by Roger Thomas to a large scale lava lamp or water feature.

Or this water fountain wall sculpture...

And some wanted to honor the view and our home state by suggesting this:

or this:

A witty observer suggested a photograph of a mountain that looked a bit like Mt. Hood but wasn’t:

Mont Blanc-1

maybe Mt. Blanc?

Which suggestion do you think works best? Lend us your votes in the comments below and maybe you will sway our choice. Our favorite suggestion will win a custom-made cutting board from Arciform along with a collection of salumi from our friends at Olympic Provisions. So think deeply and let us know which selection you prefer!

  1. Absolutely loved the house, the insight and energy you gave the changes and the respect in what was left. I especially enjoyed visiting/talking design. As to the art piece, I’ve always been a Kandinsky fan (I have that same print), enjoy the Made In Oregon sign or, personal preference, support local artists. LuAnn Ostergaard comes to mind – large, abstract, textured color statement. (Look her up or I can tell you where to see her works here.) Or, an LED backlit chromatherapy piece, merging vintage feel with current technology.

    Again, great job!

  2. The home is great, I want that built in fridge wall and the view too!
I suggest leaving the space empty. Mostly cuz the tv is mounted to the left of the space, but also cuz there’s no need for more in a room with that panorama.

I like the lava lamp idea, but it would have to be custom made to be big and flat. Or maybe a tv always on the same channel like the fireplace channel at Christmas. But this would be a volcano erupting.

I vot for the Fiji map. I do however think the picture of the guini pig is a great idea. I also really enjoyed looking at this house and others in the tour of remodeled homes.

Congratulations to Molly King, whose suggestion of an aquarium like wall-mounted water feature was Senior Designer Anne De Wolf’s favorite. We’ll arrange for you to pick up your salumi from Olympic provisions and custom Arciform cutting board today.

Thanks to everyone who contributed thoughts. Our clients very much enjoyed your creative approach to this design challenge.
